Research in Forensic DNA Analysis
The increasing number of cases being filed in court requesting for DNA tests necessitates the amendment of current legislation for paternity determination to incorporate scientific advances in the field of DNA-based paternity testing. Furthermore, DNA testing can assist in identifying bodies in mass disasters. Hence there is an urgent need to develop the national capability for forensic DNA testing through rigorous research.
The completion of the genetic databases of the Filipino population in the whole archipelago would inevitably result in the enhanced capability of the laboratory to handle cases from all the regional centers of the country.
