ASEAN Countries part of the program, Kris and Liza are currently working on various forensic techniques involving mitochondrial DNA with Dr. Peter Schneider at the University of Mainz, Germany. This training that started in March this year, goes on till December 2002. Last year, Michelle Music Tan and Gayvelline Calacal also underwent the same training, but worked on studying Y-STRs of the Filipino population in the laboratory of Dr. Lutz Roewer of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.
Local training on Database Management
Due to the expanding size of the population genetic database being maintained at the UP-DNA lab and the increasing number of client-based services, we sent Michelle Music Tan and Miriam Ruth Dalet for further training on software programs for database management. Miriam attended the MS Access workshops whilst Michelle worked on the more complex Visual Basic program. The training was conducted by the Statistical Research and Training Center (SRTC) in Quezon City, Philippines.
